The Sims: Castaway Stories

April 21st 2008 02:55

Vitals:

Genre: Life Simulation
Players: Single
Developer: Maxis
Publisher: Electronic Arts
Platform: PC Windows, Mac OSX

Castaway Stories follows the same recipe that made Life Stories a good game. However one change that they made is they only have one storyline to follow this time, and you have the choice to make you're own character.

The storyline is as follows, your character wakes up on a beach after being on a boat cruise. After a bit of confusion you have to make up a camp, and then slowly explore each peice of the island while looking for other surivivers and a way off of the island.

It's obvious where they got the inspiration from, the hot TV show "Lost", which has also recently released an official game. But Castaway Stories takes a more fun and less serious tone, which is what the sims do best.

The game focuses more on relationships then building and buying stuff, so if this is something you enjoy with the original sims games then you might be a bit dissapointed like i was. Don't get me wrong, you can do nearly everything you used to, and you can make some awesome islander styled mansions, but what let that aspect of the game down was the blocks of land, they dont give you much room to do exactly what you want eg rocks and trees get in your way and your forced to put half your dream house over the water on most beech blocks.

Unfortunately there isnt much more to say about Castaway Stories, its pretty much the same game as Life Stories, just with a cool shipwrecked setting. The only real new thing they added was the way you interacted with the local Apes, which you can adopt and put to work. Overall its a fun experience, but after the storyline ends i found there wasn't much to keep me interested.
