SWG: Primary Professions

One of the main factors of MMO's are the choices the player can make. The most significant choice is of course your Primary Profession. Most times your choice will affect your gaming experience as a whole, each profession has its own set of abilities, weapons, items etc.
When Star Wars Galaxies was originally released, there was some 30 different proffessions you could choose from. Generally being able to master two "elite" profession while having skills in others. When the NGE was released, on the 15th of November 2005, the number was drastically reduced down to nine unique and "Iconic" professions (Much to the disgust of many players, resulting in massive cancellations of accounts):
Jedi
Probably the most controversial profession available. Before the NGE Jedi was only obtainable by spending alot of time and effort doing various quests and acquiring massive amounts of experience points (xp), which was changed and jedi became a "starter profession" that any new character could start out as. Another thing the Developers overlooked was the fact that in the current timeline, Darth Vader (under the orders of Emperor Palpatine) destroyed the jedi.
Jedi generally favour the Lightsaber weapon, while also wearing Jedi Robes to enhance their jedi abilities. When the expertise system was first released, Jedi along with Bounty Hunters, were the first to recieve their new "expertise". Aside from the general ability and skill enhancers, the Jedi could decide whether they wanted to be "Light" (More Defensive) or "Dark" (More Aggressive) or even a mixture of both...
Bounty Hunter
The basic principle of bounty hunters is to capture or kill a target, who has a "price" on their head. Perhaps the most famous of which in the Star Wars universe is Boba Fett. Pre-NGE Bounty Hunters could only hunt those who made Jedi, generally the higher the Combat Level (CL) the higher the bounty prize was. When the NGE was released they changed it so players who were slain in PvP (Player vs Player) battles could put a bounty, from their own bank account, onto their killers bounty. The more people the player kills, the potentially more credits (SWG's currency) he or she could have on their head.
With the Expertise system the bounty hunters can choose whether they wanted to favour long range rifles or mid range carbines. While also benefiting other skill and abilties (The Hunters personal shield is always a good one to have).
Smuggler
The most famous Smuggler's are of course Han Solo and his Wookie sidekick Chewbacca. Speciallising in dirt fighting styles, Smugglers can choose from either using pistols or just plain hand to hand combat.
Moving Contraband from place to place is hard without alerting the Authorities, unless you have a smuggler on your team.
Commando
Want to make things go boom??? Commando's are your people. Speciallising in all the heaviest weapons (Rocket Launcers, Flame Throwers etc), the commandos are a true one man army.
Demolition, Long Range or Hand to Hand Combat, the commando can do it all...
Officer
The leadership profession. Need a job done? the Officer is the most Strategic and Tactical of them all!
Speciallising as a Squad Leader, Officers generally stick to short range weapons like pistols or swords while always giving out important buffs and heals.
Medic
If you get killed in the middle of combat, you better hope you have a medic in the group! Medics obviously have the best heals, and can also ressurect fallen comrads. But dont think they are just healers. You can either choose to specialise in Pistols or Combat Medicine (Poisons or Toxins anyone?)
Spy
Almost Invisible advanced scout ready to take anyone on. The Spies are a multi talented class thats can prove invaluable to a team. Speciallising in Carbines and Sneak attacks, they can take out an army before they even know they are there.
Trader
The crafters and businessmen and businesswomen of the galaxy. They can build and repair almost anything. They are seperated into four individual professions:
Structures Trader: Buildings, Furniture and Starships
Munitions: Weapons and Ammunition
Domestic Goods: Food and Clothing
Engineering: Land Vehicles and Droids.
Entertainers
They are the life of the Party! Entertainers can Dance, play music and change your appearance (Image Design). At the end of the day, who better to chat to and watch then a friendly Entertainer at your local Cantina.
