Star Trek Online
July 5th 2007 01:54
It was only a matter of time till one of the largest and most popular franchise became a Massively Multiplayer Online game. Announced in September 2004, Perpeptual Entertainment was given the rights to develop with plans for a final release date at the end of 2008 (Probably just in time for Christmas).
Players will be able to move up the ranks, from a cadet at the Acedemy all the way to Admiral, all within departments straight from the TV Shows and Movies. Engineering, Science and Tactical/Security are the main mandatory departments you have to choose from, and from there you specialise in other famous professions like medical, helm control, operations etc. Later on in the game players can choose to branch out to a Command tree, which will ultimately lead to being Captain of a starship.
Over one hundred ships have been said to be ingame, ranging from those classes shown on the TV series or the Movies to some news one specially created for the game. Around 50 of these players will be able to control for themselves once they meet the requirements. It is said that everyone will have their own ship, players will start out with a runabout and as they progress up the ladder and make prestige points, they will be able to request new classes of starships.
Players have the choice of playing one of these popular races from the franchise:
(Note these have not been confirmed as the final selection, changes may occur)
Humans:
Vulcan:
Klingon:
Bajoran
Bolian:
Cardassian:
Ferengi:
Tellarite:
Andorian:

Don't forget some of those names were created for the original Star Trek Tv series....
Another upcomming MMO is Stargate Worlds, based obviously on the Stargate Franchise which is taking a different approach to MMO combat.
