Playstation 3 is it worth it???
July 20th 2007 00:42
Since the media release of the new Grand Theft Auto series game GTAIV, i have been debating whether or not i should buy the Playstation 3. When GTA3 was released on the Playstation 2 i had bought the game before owning the console, and used to go over my cousins house, who already had the PS2, to play it. And unfortunately no one i know has the new Playstation 3...
In my blog not too long ago about choosing which console to buy (Found here: Link ) I said that the PS3 was only worth it if money was not a problem. The current game line up could not justify buying one and the backwards compatibility issues with the Australian Models meant that alot of my old games were having troubles on the new system. Since then i have found out that most of the games had been fixed with patches found on the internet or included in the newest released games.
Now we all know that the playstation is supposed to be the superior console in terms of technology included, and seeing as i am not that knowledgable in that area i wont try to justify it with facts and figures. In fact the only reason you would buy the PS3 is for the games and at the time of the Australian launch, there were no games that really stood out, except perhaps Resistance: Fall of Man which seemed to have got good reviews all round from most sources and the rest were just ports from either the PS2 or the PSP. But is one game worth the console? Well people bought the PS3 when it was released so i guess some people think so, I don't.
Since the lauch till now, there have been a few games released. Mainly comprising of Movies-Adapted-to-Games (Spiderman 3, Transformers, Pirates of the Carribean 3etc etc), and a couple like F.E.A.R and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion a port over from the PC. However The Darkness Seemed to get good ratings on its release. So far its been nothing special for the PS3...
However the PS3 makes up with future releases:
PS3 Exclusive Titles that Stand out:
- Driver 5: May do O.k despite the failings of the last two titles
- Final Fantasy XIII: The FF series have always proven popular
- Eight Days: A Suprise at the E3 2006, how will it prove on release?
- Getaway 3: The Getaway series comes to rival GTA again on the PS3
- Gran Turismo 5: Perhaps the greatest Racing Simulation series comes to PS3
- Killzone 2: The third game of the Killzone series
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots: The Snake is Back
- Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction: See here: Link
- Tekken 6: The King of Iron Fist Tournament comes to the PS3
- Time Crisis 4: Also found at arcades
- Singstar: The Popular game is comming to the PS3

With that line up is it worth buying? GTAIV is almost enough to say yes, and some of those other titles have made up my mind. Yes it is, the only question remains now is When Do i Buy it???

Like i said in my other post, the Wii to me is more intended for fun, which caters for the casual gamer. Heaven knows ive been tempted to buy the Wii, but GTA4 keeps making me swing back to the PS3...
